When a client requests work outside of the contractual project scope at no extra charge this can be considered a favor.
Don't start doing favors. It is highly likely to spiral downwards. One favor begets another favor request and before you know you will lose control over the initial project scope.
Skillful project management is not about trying to please the client at any time. It is about satisfying all stakeholders involved and this requires a very delicate balance.
At any point in time, make it 100% clear that work requested outside of the contractual scope needs to be worked on and paid for in a second phase.
