UCLA Extension Spring Quarter 2007
Engineering, Information Systems, and Technical Management
S8466 IT Performance Analysis April 2 - June 18 (Online)
Course Description
Present-day challenges in information technology are in constant flux, with IT departments having to continually justify their existence by proving ROI and overall business value. When IT departments underperform, decision making is often reactionary with little basis for justifying cuts or expenditures. A performance analysis acts as a thermometer that takes the current temperature of an IT environment, providing the correct path for a performance remedy. The most common method used today to measure performance is through a "needs analysis." This course looks at the benefits of conducting a needs analysis and demonstrates how to conduct one in order to resolve performance problems related to system rollouts, human capital development (IT competencies), performance problems, and strategy development (future planning). Topics include an introduction to performance analysis, data collection, gap analysis, getting buy-in, understanding training and non-training interventions, and job task analysis. Students are expected to build a final project (culminating from the exercises presented in each unit), which consists of a business proposal for conducting a performance analysis
